On 30 March 2007 Friday Late animated the V&A galleries with workshops, performances and screenings celebrating the art of moving images. Visitors had a chance to explore all animation techniques from hand-drawn frames to the latest computer technologies.

    Nexus retrospective with Smith & Foulkes: a decade of animation

    Visitors joined the award-winning production company to celebrate their 10th anniversary. Shooting People's James Mullighan chaired a discussion on the changing face of animation through the last 10 years with Nexus directors Smith & Foulkes and company founders Chris O'Reilly and Charlotte Bavasso. Featured a selection of short films, title sequences, comedy sketches, music videos and commercials.

    Shadow Monsters by Philip Worthington

    A magical interactive installation that conjured up dark tales inhabited by wolf-like creatures, cawing birds and fierce dragons. This installation was presented on large scale for the first time.

    Animation graduates from Central Saint Martins created their own cartoon based on Raphael's masterpieces. The finished cartoon was premiered at 21.00.

    Flip-Book Workshop

    Visitors grab a pen and breathed life into their own flip-book in this workshop by graphic designers Airside. Each flip book: 50p. Subject to availability.

    Phonographantasmascope by Jim Le Fevre

    Director Director Jim Le Fevre presented his DIY zoetrope installation and offered a chance to make your own.

    Interactive Over-Head Projector and Music-Making Adventure by Brains and Hunch and Sam Morrison

    Visitors made up their own story and Brains and Hunch's live science-fiction jazz band created a soundtrack for it. With award-winning actor Will Adamsdale assisting with storyline.

    3D Caricature Freakshow by Darren Price , Ben Cowell and Matt Clark

    Visitors were offered a chance to become a 3D caricature in the hands of three key artists from the Nexus studio whilst they talked through the 3D process behind the studio's award winning work.
     
    Butcher's  Manipulation Disco by Stuart Doig and Reece Millidge

    Transformed into an animated character dancing to the sound of disco in this multi-sensory environment visitors danced with themselves!

    It Starts With a Drawing by Celyn

    Renown illustrator and animation director Celyn gave an insight into the art of 2D design in this film and illustration piece.

    The process behind stop-frame animation explained by picking up props and submitting yourself to Luke and Wendy's instructions.

    The Short Films of Jonas Odell and Woof Wan Bau

    Screening of Jonas Odell's Golden Bear winning short film Never Like The First Time! and Revolver as well as Woof Wan Bau's Watermelon Love and From Nose to Mouth.
