Very basic raphia sample exploring the relationship between balanced and weft faced weave.
Rather unexpectedly, given the rich historic textile environment of the V&A, I have found myself drawn again and again to the direct simplicity of plain weave (click on thumbnails in ‘Back To Basics’ May 23rd).
The subtle nuances found in the wealth of these tiny fragments have permeated...

Stone drawing by Jo Collinge/Stephen Moore at Farewell Spit, South Island, New Zealand.
In 2005, friends from Hebden Bridge in land locked Yorkshire went to live for a few years in New Zealand. Their reaction to work seen in the UK and on the blog has inspired me to think about the potential of a world wide stone drawing project.
I’ll leave it to Jo to explain:

In some cases these features reflect the ideas and thinking that Sue has expressed in many of these blog entries, but much of the material gives further insight into her work and the creative process...

Sounds ripping up and out from the back of his throat; soaring, rolling around the music, gutsy, powerful, textural, filling the auditorium and carrying all with him. Tuesday night: Bridgewater Hall, Manchester and Van Morrison turning us inside out with his voice.
From ‘Astral Weeks’ days to now, VM has been an-all-time-ever favourite, not with everything, but consistently throwing...

It was Lisa Jacques, education officer at The City Gallery, Leicester who made the connection and my piece ‘Mesh ‘ was the catalyst.
Autumn 2005 and The City Gallery was about to host an exhibition by the artist Jo Fairfax, who had developed a virtual reality artwork ‘Dream Time’. This consisted of a series of dreamlike worlds accessed through a virtual reality headset...

When the prime response is felt in the gut, you know an exhibition has hit the spot,
2121 ‐ the textile vision of Reiko Sudo and Nuno did it for me. (Showing at 'The Hub')
As the memory of its experience distilled through the week, I strived to consider my intellectual response in order to write a few words here.
Wednesday evening I was taking my son to his guitar lesson - the night...
