The books main character 16 year old Frank tells the story of how he murdered 3 members of his own family, Esmerelda being one of the victims he speaks most fondly about. The story is set in Scotland on the "island" where Frank lives with his father. A Lasting memory of Esmerelda is the flowers she picks for Frank before she is carried away into the sky over the sandy dunes by Franks kite.
