'Brotherhood', an autobiographical story by the son of a prominent Libyan dissident about his life under a false identity in an English boarding school.
The story begins with descriptions of violence and the threats to his family but I was directed to avoid those scenes and focus on the friendship he makes with the son of someone in the Gaddafi regime. The scenes I chose are quite happy and idyllic, and all the tension is left to the writing. I decided to use the blue of the uniforms as a basis of a limited palette. I had seen a photo of the writer as an adult and tried to reflect his likeness into the face of the boy. I felt I should show their faces at least once in the series of artworks. Annabel Wright
