My book is based on the poem 'High Flight' by a spitfire pilot named Gillespie Magee. I try to recapture the euphoria and sense of freedom that I felt while reading it, and ultimately meet the brief of the project, which was to explore and challenge the methods of sequential communication.
There are eleven illustrations in the book, while the twelfth, back page has the poem in words. The page I've chosen here is an attempt to portray this line of the poem -
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
While the double page spread is my attempt at illustrating the final lines of the poem.
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.
For easy reference, the whole poem can be found Here.
