Christmas in Uganda

Christmas in Uganda

My submission is a sequence of illustrations produced for ‘Christmas in Uganda’ which is a children’s story book aimed at 3-5 year olds. This project was in association with the Helping Uganda Schools charity who wanted to produce a children’s story to book to sell in a bid to raise additional and much needed funds over the Christmas period to build another school in Uganda. You can visit this inspirational charity at http://www.helpingugandaschools.org/.
Initially the project manager Denise Ead approached the college and set a competition amongst the third year illustration students to produce some rough work which we presented to her in a bid to win the prize of illustrating the whole book. The book is written by her niece Alex Tracey who studies creative writing at Manchester Metropolitan University. Collaborating on a project such as this demanded much professionalism but was a very enjoyable process.
My images have been created using acrylic, drawing inks and crayon. My playful characters have a very tactile quality which Denise really liked, I hope that you enjoy them too.
