Dream Journey to the Peach Blossom Land

Dream Journey to the Peach Blossom Land

90 x 150 cm, 2011
Red coloured carbon paper, watercolour, coloured pencil on paper

- Brief: Relation & Restoration:

This work is about a conscious attempt to catch the unconscious in asleep for reciprocal communications between them as a way of physical and spiritual restoration from sleeping. By adding my imagination in aware on top of the original marks gathered by sleeping on paper for a month, the moments of unawareness are in dialogue with the moments of awareness within the picture for a period of time.
(* Peach Blossom was regarded as a Utopian place in Oriental background.)

My work is concerned with capturing neglected moments of life and bring them over to people’s attention by adjusting to recognisable objects.
By means of it, I sleep on paper for a month to trace body drawings, or I install paper-set down on a street to gather people and cars' footprints.

Viewing a work of mark making in unawareness gives the viewer a joy to discover various and imaginative images from the mark in awareness. At the moment, I believe reciprocal communication between the conscious and the unconscious occurs. Such relationship of them leads to an opportunity to reconcile with each other if needed.

Therefore, a conscious attempt to catch the unconscious is a process of understanding and then restoring its other side interactively.
