Empowering Women of the 1950's and 1960's

Empowering Women of the 1950's and 1960's

These illustrations were created as an accompaniment to my dissertation, entitled "The Empowerment of Women in 1950s and 1960s Cinema". I focused on Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Elizabeth Taylor, and wanted to convey my theme through these images rather than simply creating portraits. I researched into symbols of power and strength, and discovered that the camellia is the flower that symbolises desire and strength of character. The circle also represents feminine power. I included these semiotic references, and chose the colour pink as it relates to femininity; my thesis is based around the concept of strength whilst maintaining grace and beauty.
