The little tragedies: The Stone Guest.

The little tragedies: The Stone Guest.

The little tragedies are Pushkin’s four short dramas in verse: The Miserly Knight, Mozart and Salieri, The Stone Guest, and A Feast During the Plague. The author experimented with drama as means of exploring human passions. Each of the little tragedies has a protagonist with internal psychological conflict, who faces a crucial choice between opposing alternatives. This uneasy choice becomes the key element of the plot. What unites the four protagonists of the little tragedies is that each of them is driven by a dominating passion, which violates the moral law. As a penalty for that violation the character then loses the very thing he sought to gain.

Based on the analysis of the dramatic text, I made abstract illustrations reflecting borderline condition of main characters. These illustrations were made particularly for The Stone Guest drama.
