The Man with the Glass Nose

The Man with the Glass Nose

This illustration is based on the Kurt Schwitters fairy tale, the Man with the Glass Nose. The story is about a man who is able to tell what a person is thinking by their smell. Although he is constantly being complemented for his nose, what he really smells contradicts this; it stinks. German born Schwitters wrote this tale, based on his own experiences, while seeking refuge in England at the beginning of the Second World War.In this work I am attempting to highlight the feelings of isolation and loneliness Schwitters felt when plunged into an over polite society.
