"Noir" means black in French, but also represents a mood or look. It is often used to describe Hollywood crime dramas of the 40s and 50s too. I was asked to produce a single A4 page for a graphic novel in black and white for a limited edition publication for local Quad Gallery as part of the Noir season - my work: "At the gate". Then my task was to create a picture book based on starting points in the Noir project and should in the narrative and imagery reflect and communicate the original theme. I have created a story for older children about a loss of a parent. Some of the images are: "Balloon chase" and "Scene of the accident".
