Oh, Horrors!

Three selected spreads from an A3 size book, produced as a response to 'The Bloody Chamber & Other Stories' by Angela Carter.

The work is a mixture of drawn and printed elements - linocut, pencil and ink. I was inspired to work in monochrome through my interest in film noir. I have used the contrast of light and shadow to create a dramatic environment, suggestive of a stage or film storyboard. Rather than having a focus on the narrative elements of the novel, I turned my attention to the setting and general ambience that the stories suggest.

The images are accompanied by a section of text from each respective story.
