White Wash

White Wash

Inspired by prestige of colour white rooted in eastern rituals, this series of illustrations is a response to self-inflicted trauma of wanting to have 'white' skin. From albino elephant representing divinity in thailand, to romanticised purity of white tea in china, dark-skin asians were born into a century old suppressive culture of self-hatred. Many were left desperately seeking for liberation by sexually engage with white partners, as in the moment of intercourse, they would finally be submersed with of something considered beautiful, something 'white'.
