The brief that I was given by my tutor was to pick a controversial topic and produce two illustrations, one that is for and one that is against the chosen topic. These editorial illustrations needed to be suitable for a newspaper article so had to be able to work on a small scale. I wanted to create humour in the work whilst still conveying serious arguments. I decided to show conservation as the pro of zoos, with the endangered baby rhino being carried by her mother, adding humour through the baby sling and dummy. With the con I wanted to show how the zoo is an unnatural habitat for animals, with the camel wrapped up and shivering, giving the impression he's not suited to a colder climate.
