Gail Armstrong "Open For Business"

Issue 20 of Impact Magazine focussed on how best to make office space work. The lead article is about how the conventional cubicle workspace is being replaced by more open plan office spaces, where employees are encouraged to use the space and interact more freely.
The image I was asked to create was in 2 parts. The cover image was to be a closed cube with textures and panels reflecting those often seen on office cubicles. The word "Open" is the constant between the two images, as on the inside spread, the walls of the cubicle have fallen away to reveal the happy staff interacting and contentedly using the open-plan office space.
In order to enhance the sense of air and freedom, clouds and birds were used and in the online version of the magazine, these have been very simply animated. It can be viewed at
