Best known for it's Apocalypse Now adaptation, The Heart of Darkness is the second in a trilogy of novels by Joseph Conrad. Dealing with themes of colonisation and madness it describes a tense journey through what was then known as the Belgian Congo in the the early 1900s.
Heavy, dense, and dark my series of illustrations hope to convey the dangerous atmosphere of the main character's journey through the jungle. Intended as a full series of internal illustrations for print, these are two that I chose to submit to this years Folio Society student brief.
