London Stories - Kew Gardens

An Illustration based on the short story ‘Kew Gardens’, by Virginia Woolf. In the story, different sets of characters wander around the garden, and the different plants within the gardens remind them of their pasts.
My illustration plays with the idea of shadows, which represent the characters memories that they are haunted by.
At the end of the story, the characters are pulled away from this green space in the capital city, and dissolve back into the smog.
The 1920's auto bus in the image is used as a metaphor for driving the mechanical cogs which draw the characters back to the city.
