Inspired by the poem, The Thought Fox by Ted Hughes, I produced a series of monoprints which narrates the experience of a poet attempting to put his writing down in words.
It is first indistinct and formless but soon manifests itself, growing in presence and purpose. I built each successive plate on the previous, hinting at what came before and how this informed the next stage of the fox's exploration of the metaphorical forest.
The brief was to experiment with printmaking whilst using images to enliven and enlighten a text. As an illustrator who prefers to create from my imagination, this was almost a silent collaboration where I enjoyed interpreting the words of a great and brilliant writer.
