Week 20: The Imperial Laser Show

August 11, 2014

3D scanning, digital modelling, prototyping; those are all things of the past. With 1.5 months to go until London Design Festival, it’s about laser cutting the final patterns now. For this purpose, we set up shop at the Mechanical Engineering Department of Imperial College right up Exhibition Road. Sate-of-the-art facilities, extraordinary hospitality and convenient location are one thing, but being presented crisp lab coats is what actually made the difference.

7 days of not blinking while operating the TechSoft LaserCAM and CNC simultaneously resulted in 180 sheets of beautifully sliced polygons. That would be approximately 4,000 triangles that we avoided cutting by hand. The combination lab coats and mechanical finesse worked their charm so well that we continue to wear them, even now we’re back in the Museum. We are most definitely forever impressed.
