Reveal Festival for families

This weekend take part in the Reveal Festival at the Victoria and Albert Museum. There will be lots of events for all the family including a Digital Kids Minecraft activity.

On Saturday and Sunday in the Sackler Centre for arts education join artist Matt Shaw to build monumental structures responding to the new architectural spaces in the Exhibition Road Quarter. On Sunday in The John Madejski Garden, you can play with the popular growing structures activity kit designed by Arup and experiment with light in a new Drop-in Design activity with engineers in the Raphael gallery.

Join us in the brand new Sackler Courtyard on Saturday where you will be welcomed to ‘Albertopolis’ by Chickenshed. Using street theatre, they will bring the characters that made Albertopolis – the cluster of cultural buildings along exhibition road – to life. This will be the first performance to take place using the new Sackler Courtyard just for families. Characters to be revealed include Henry Cole, the Museum’s first Director and his dogs. A new song about Albertopolis has been written especially for this Pop-up Performance, which is guaranteed to stay in the memory of those who hear it.

To dig deeper into the story of the V&A and its buildings, pick up the new ‘Albertopolis Family Trail.’ With a cut-out doorway on every page it takes you through old and new spaces across the Museum and invites children to design their own architectural feature for the next phase of the Museum. There is also a new online game for families launching at the weekend available at vam.ac.uk/seekers. Let eight characters from the V&A guide you on a treasure hunt to uncover the secrets of the Museum in V&A Secret Seekers.

In the new John Lyons Charity Community Gallery, you can see work created by local school children inspired by the Exhibition Road Quarter project in the Door to Design display.

Also in the Sackler Centre for arts education, join the Museum’s youth collective Createvoice and designers Kennedy Woods on Saturday and take part in a playful drop-in craft and construction activity for all ages using the collection as a starting point.
