Reuben Le Prevost is a furniture designer, currently launching Goldkorn, a home-wares brand producing cast aluminium furniture and fittings. Jessica Sutton is a model-maker and designer with amazing miniaturist skills. East London Furniture (ELF) make bespoke furniture and interiors from reclaimed materials.
The Dream House room that East London Furniture, Reuben, and Jess have made is inspired by their workshop and showroom in Bermondsey. Sparse and industrial, the space reflects the values and craft they bring to design. This is home furniture tested and built to rigorous standards. In the little room we see a miniature version of an ELF table with cast iron legs, and scale models of the new Goldkorn aluminium bench and shelving. The exquisitely detailed bricks on the walls were made by Jess using individual squares of watercolour paper.
At their Bermondsey base, East London Furniture have been working with the homelessness charity Crisis to train their members in wood working skills. However the building has been sold and in spring 2015 will be redeveloped into luxury flats. The space has been fundamental to East London Furniture’s growth as a company, and Crisis’ operations. This model captures the industrial past of the building; come 2016, this space may be someone’s living room.
