An Introduction to Costume Design for Ex – Prisoners

by Marisa Smith, Programme Manager, Workshops and Events.To complement the major exhibition Hollywood Costumes, the V&A worked with Synergy Theatre Project to deliver on-site costume design classes for ex prisoners. These 4 sessions were designed to give an insight into the role of the costume designer, with particular focus upon the collaborative nature of this profession.

Creative Quarter 2012

By Cara Williams, Schools Programmes Manager.Creative Quarter, the V&A’s flagship event for secondary schools and colleges, took place on Friday 16th November and was attended by 30 schools from around London and further afield. A total of 3,600 young people participated in talks, workshops and drop-in events throughout the day.

To begin with two photos of Keith’s Inspired by Diaghilev/ set design workshop. This sets the mood for a week of activities over half term – already there are families flaunting ‘fins, feathers and funky moves’ in the half term Parade of the Animals although Keith’s workshops have a more serious aspects. The ENB residency, Rephrasing Ballets Russes, continues through to Sunday. Workshops and events

The programme of events is now well underway and this week I took Jennifer and Constance who will be running the Diaghilev Designs:Silk Scarves workshops sessions (starting 26 October) round the exhibition. There is so much to inspire in the exhibition. I also contributed to the Art Deco Design course and participants were then able to go into spot the Art Deco elements in the Ballets Russes for themselves.
