Claire Tomalin is one of the most accomplished living biographers, and has recently published a highly acclaimed book about the life of Dickens. We were lucky enough to accompany Claire when she visited the V&A's conservation department to view the work being carried out on the museum's Dickens manuscripts. These manuscripts were left to the V&A by John Forster, Dickens's great friend.

In this film, Claire tells us about Forster and why he was such an important figure in the life of Dickens. She also gives us an insight into her relationship with the work of Dickens and explains why she thinks book conservation is so important.
