Introduction to Life in China
The Museum possesses one of the most comprehensive and important collections of Chinese art dating from 3000 BC to the present time. Magnificent textiles, exquisite porcelain and elegant furniture are among the many treasures of the finest quality and design. The China (T T Tsui) Gallery is organised according to six main themes; living, eating and drinking, temple and worship, burial, ruling and collecting. The following pages are an introduction to life in China using objects from the collection to help explain each theme featured in the gallery.

Living in China
Living shows furniture, textiles, ornaments and clothing used in the homes of wealthy people between 1000 and 1900.

Eating and Drinking in China
Eating and Drinking displays utensils for food, tea and alcohol from 1400 BC to the present.

Temple and Worship in China
Temple and Worship shows images and ritual objects worshipped and used in Chinese temples from 500 to 1800.

Burial in China
Burial displays objects made between 3000 BC and AD 1650 to be buried with the dead in tombs

Ruling shows things made and used at the imperial court from 1400 to 1900
