The Other Flower Show

29 May - 11 July 2004
Admission Free

The Other Flower Show at the Victoria and Albert Museum brings together a group of contemporary artists and designers who explore the formal qualities of flowers, gardens and nature. Each has been invited to transform a garden shed into a creative and conceptual alternative to the traditional flower show.

There is something quintessentially English about a garden shed. It implies far more than simple garden storage: shelter at a rainy garden party, an enthusiast's workshop, a place for retreat, or perhaps for something more untoward... Here in the V&A garden, the shed functions as a blank canvas. It is for the individual artist to decide how to respond to the structure and its inherent implications.

The Other Flower Show takes art out of the gallery and flowers out of the greenhouse. From the sublime, to the scientific, the subversively humorous to the conceptual, each installation offers an entirely different experience.

An UP Projects Exhibition in partnership with the V&A, curated by Emma Underhill.
