Abbie Doran Biography
Role: Podcast Coordinator and Administrator
Since graduating from the V&A/RCA History of Design Masters in 2013, I have been coordinating a series of podcasts offering listeners a ‘behind the scenes’ perspective of the museum as well as providing administrative and research support for the department.
My broad research interests include medical humanities, taxonomy and attitudes toward the body, with research conducted on subjects from taxidermy to disability. I am particularly interested in medical humanities in relation to art and design. Taking the body of the child as the focal point, my masters’ dissertation explored the complicated history of prosthetics, orthotics and contemporary understandings of ‘normality’ in regard to British children with physical disabilities in the first half of the twentieth century.
I am currently working on the second series of podcasts that will explore the history of ideas using fascinating objects from the collections in the new Europe Galleries to tell stories about the period.
