Education project: Image & Identity artworks 2007-8

In this fifth year of the project, the focus of all partners has been Remembering Slavery to mark the bicentennial of the Abolition of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Inspired by museum collections, young people have worked with visual artists, poets and storytellers to explore the legacies of slavery.

They have looked at how powerful ideas such identity and freedom can be expressed through the art. They worked with the artists to create their own responses to these ideas using painting, photography and sculpture and this year there has been a particular emphasis on the spoken word through poetry, drama, sound pieces and film.
