Fashion in Motion: Men in Skirts

Fashion in Motion is a series of live fashion shows at the V&A featuring leading fashion designers from across the world.

Menswear, dramatically re-invented for the 21st century, was the subject of this Fashion in Motion catwalk show, featuring designer skirts, dresses, kilts, sarongs, kaftans and frock coats for men. The pieces were from Spring/Summer 2002 collections by internationally renowned designers, including Jean-Paul Gaultier, Kenzo, Burberry and Paul Smith. Comfortable, elegant and radical, the skirts represented an alternative to conventional menswear, and reflected on the history of the skirt, which before the 14th century, would have been worn by both men and women.
