Fashion in Motion: Pip Hackett

March 2000

Fashion in Motion is a series of live catwalk events presented at the V&A. Featuring some of the greatest designers of our time, Fashion in Motion brings catwalk couture to a wider audience by modelling it against the beautiful backdrop of the Museum.

Milliner Pip Hackett graduated from the Royal College of Art, and creates hats, headpieces and hair accessories that are stylish concoctions of feathers, flowers and sculptural shapes.

These pieces are individually crafted using traditional millinery techniques combined with a distinctive and contemporary feel. Hackett’s collection takes its inspiration from a variety of sources such as Victorian fairy paintings, and the fantasy world of Japanese multimedia artist Mariko Mori. Her fantastic and witty creations utilise velvets, flocked fabrics, couture lace, feathering, antique tulle and veiling.

Hackett has created work for the catwalk shows of Thierry Mugler, Pearce Fionda, and Hardy Amies and retailers such as Harrods, Debenhams, and Liberty have commissioned millinery collections, Her work has also been displayed in a fine art context in exhibitions such as 'Full House Fashion' at the Kunst Museum in Germany, and the touring exhibition 'Satellites of Fashion'.
