Swarovski, the world's leading manufacturer of cut crystal was established in Austria in 1895 and has a long tradition of links with the fashion and jewellery industry, collaborating in the 1950s with people like Christian Dior and Coco Chanel to create avant-garde crystal jewellery.
The V&A celebrated Swarovski's collaboration with the world of fashion with a series of stunning catwalk shows in November 2004, presenting a unique collection of spectacular specially-commissioned jewels for the catwalk. The designers, all linked to fashion and jewellery, were asked to merge fashion, body ornament and jewellery, and innovate with crystal to create their ultimate runway jewellery piece.
