The V&A has a team of experienced ESOL tutors dedicated to supporting ESOL group tours. We provide a range of specialist tours and online resources, and our Citizenship tours are designed to complement the Citizenship component of the ESOL curriculum.
ESOL gallery tours
ESOL gallery tours are free of charge to colleges and community organisations. They involve a short gallery tour led by an experienced ESOL tutor, accompanied by downloadable worksheets and activities that focus on particular objects of interest to make the exhibits more accessible. Choose to visit the Chinese, Glass, Indian, Japanese, Silver or British Galleries.
Duration: Two hours

ESOL gallery tour resources
We provide teacher's notes to help prepare for the visit, including language based activities at two levels and suggestions for pre-visit activities. These aim to motivate interest, help students understand the exhibits and encourage use of language during the visit. All materials are mapped to the Skills for Life ESOL curriculum and the work can be used as evidence of component skills for assessment and accreditation. The ESOL tutor accompanying your group will contact you before your visit to discuss your group's language level and particular interests.
We are currently revising the worksheets and teachers' pack and should be able to place them online very soon. For more information, please contact Filipa Alves de Sousa

ESOL Citizenship tours
The aim of the V&A's Citizenship tours, led by experienced ESOL tutors, is to increase students’ awareness of UK history and cultural diversity, and offer them the opportunity to develop their language skills in a stimulating environment.
The V&A's tours are designed to complement the Citizenship component of the ESOL curriculum. The tours and accompanying worksheets have been developed with reference to both the NIACE Citizenship materials for ESOL learners pack and the SfL ESOL core curriculum. Tours and worksheets are offered at levels E2-L1.
The V&A is particularly well placed to cover elements of UK history and culture. The British Galleries (1500–1900) help to bring the past to life, enabling students to walk thorough history, and our rich collections of religious and cultural artefacts from around the world give fascinating insights into the backgrounds of many of the diverse communities who live in the UK today.
Available: Weekdays 10–4
Cost: Free of charge
To book: Please note we generally require 2 weeks' notice, though exceptions can be made.
