Room 69: European Silver

Silver, room 69

Room 69 includes sumptuous displays of European silver created between 1400 and 1800. In the centre of the room are display boxes, divided into the popular styles of the period: Gothic, Renaissance, Mannerist, Baroque, Rococo and Neo-classical. Along one wall are displays from various countries in Northern Europe. Along the other is a thematic display featuring plaquettes, French fashion, personal luxuries and pique.

The Silver galleries house more than 3,500 objects from medieval times to the present day, including pieces by some of the world's most celebrated goldsmiths. The displays explore the history, beauty and versatility of silver through dramatic, richly illustrated displays.

Room 69 is on Level 3 of the V&A South Kensington.
