Room 45: Japan

Japan, Room 45

The Toshiba Gallery

Room 45 contains a wide range of treasures from Japan including swords and armour, netsuke (small carvings), wood-block prints, textiles, lacquer, ceramics and other articles used for the Tea Ceremony. There are also objects acquired from the great world exhibitions of the 19th century. These all illustrate the extraordinary craftsmanship and artistic wealth of Japan from about the 6th century up to the present day.
