Room 58: Renaissance Style
The complete historic interior of a room from the 'Old Palace' at Bromley-by-Bow dating back to the early 17th century is also accessible via Room 58..
Henry VIII, a great patron of the arts, spent lavishly on furnishings, paintings, tapestries and silver. Examples of these objects are displayed here. They reveal the influence of new ideas from Renaissance Europe which were often combined with traditional Gothic features and heraldry to create a particularly British interpretation of style. Also on display here are objects on the theme 'Achieving Splendour' as well as items relating to birth, marriage and death in the 16th and 17th centuries. The complete historic interior of a room from the 'Old Palace' at Bromley-by-Bow dating back to the early 17th century is also accessible via this room.
Room 58 is on Level 2 of the V&A South Kensington.
