Room 56: The Civil War Years
Room 56 contains a vivid display on the magnificent dressing of the nobility in the early 1700s. This includes, elaborate items of clothing and accessories such as shoes, lace-collars, gloves, purses and jewellery. Other themes explored in this room include fashionable living during the Civil War years, the new skill of marquetry, developments in ceramics, new forms of furniture, as well as both the Jacobean and Restoration styles.
Please note: Sections of Room 56 will be closed from 18 June 2012 and will reopen on 16 July 2012 in order to undertake essential marble repair works.
Room 56 is on Level 2 of the V&A South Kensington.
