Kalighat (translated as 'home of Kali') painting is a specific urban painting style that developed in the vicinity of the  Kali temple in Kolkata, India, during the mid 19th century. This exhibition, a collaboration with the Victoria Memorial Hall in Kolkata, charts the development of this style of painting from early watercolours of simple figures on a plain background, through to more complicated designs demonstrating the growing European influence on the city.
