V&A Reading Rooms

Open daily from 11:00

V&A Reading Rooms

The V&A Reading Rooms, at No 8 Exhibition Road (between South Kensington tube station and the Museum) combines two of life’s great pleasures: good books and fine wine. Here, you can read or browse over 1000 books, and enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine. Bar snacks including olives, cheese and meat plates, lemon almonds and grissini are also available.

Open seven days a week, the V&A Reading Rooms are the ideal place to meet before or after an exhibition, a great place to pass a pleasant half hour when passing through or spending an evening with friends.

In our eclectic, curated book collection we place novellas alongside biographies and graphic novels next to guides to the beautiful and bizarre, taking in vintage bindings and the latest in contemporary book design.

Thursday night events

The V&A Reading Rooms also runs a programme of free events, Evenings at the V&A Reading Rooms, on a Thursday night where hosts come and speak about their work and career. Previous hosts have included illustrator Rob Ryan, journalist Malika Dalamal from Daily Candy, Menswear Designer of Year 2010 Patrick Grant and Bocca Di Lupo chef Jacob Kennedy amongst others.

Craft Tuesday

The Rooms also hold a craft evening, Craft Tuesday, where we celebrate traditional and modern arts and crafts.  These Tuesday evenings are hosted by leading creatives using products that are developed for and with the V&A Shop.

A gift in your will

You may not have thought of including a gift to a museum in your will, but the V&A is a charity and legacies form an important source of funding for our work. It is not just the great collectors and the wealthy who leave legacies to the V&A. Legacies of all sizes, large and small, make a real difference to what we can do and your support can help ensure that future generations enjoy the V&A as much as you have.
