It documents the transformation of design in Britain since the post-war austerity Games of 1948 and examines concepts of tradition and modernity, subversion and innovation in all areas of design. Fisherman Tea Towel - £5
Keith Vaughan's 'The Fisherman' furnishing textile from 1956 by Edinburgh Weavers Ltd is printed on this attractive tea towel. Edinburgh Weavers Ltd played an important role in the development of directional British textile design and their fabrics feature throughout the exhibition.
Pleasure Gardens Mounted Print - £6
Taken from the cover of the guide book to the Festival of Britain’s Pleasure Gardens in Battersea, 1951, this print designed by Hans Tisdall evokes the fun filled atmosphere. The Pleasure Gardens included a café, beer garden, riverside walk, funfair, the Far Tottering and Oystercreek Railway and Gardens by Night.

Patrick Rylands Fish and Bird Bath Toy - £19.90 each
The fish and bird toys are from a group of toys by Patrick Rylands, which won the Duke of Edinburgh's Design Award in 1970 and have recently been re-issued; back by popular demand. Rylands trained as a ceramicist at the Royal College of Art, and his love of sculptural forms combined with his interest in plastics technology led him to design smooth rounded plastic toys which were very easy for small children to handle. Give as a gift or display as beautfully designed object.
Wave Silk Scarf - £40
This beautiful silk scarf is emblazoned with 'Mandarin' from a furnishing textile by Linda Harper for Hull Traders Ltd. Hull Traders Ltd like Edinburgh Weavers played an important role on the British textile scene. The bold poppy colours and dynamic design of Harper’s textile makes for a 60s inspired scarf.
Robin Day Polyside Chair - £55
The original Polyside chair designed by Robin Day was launched in 1963 after three years of development work using the new technology of injection-moulding polypropylene to create a single form for the seat shell. Day’s chair went to become a worldwide success selling hundreds of thousands of units over the years. A British design classic, the Polyside chair has now been given a makeover with a range of bright modern colours.

Race Furniture for the V&A- Antelope Chair - £450
The V&A Shop is delighted to announce its exclusive collaboration with Race Furniture, on the reissue of the Antelope Chair in its original Festival of Britain yellow. The Antelope chair was originally designed by Ernest Race and commissioned to furnish the outdoor terraces of the newly built Royal Festival Hall for the 1951 Festival of Britain. Race chose yellow, one of the official Festival colours for the moulded plywood seat which complimented the white slender bent steel frame and petite balled feet. The exclusive limited edition chair features the Ernest Race and V&A logo, stamping it with authoritative approval.
