Room 118a: The Garricks

The Garricks, room 118a

Room 118a looks at the impact of new eating and drinking habits in the 18th century, the development of trade with the East Indies as well as new skills and techniques in textile printing. Interesting personalities featured here include Horace Walpole and Thomas Chippendale. Also represented here are the fascinating couple, actor David Garrick and his wife the dancer, Eva Maria Viegel. Among the obvious 'leaders of taste' in this period, the Garricks' properties were improved by the architect Robert Adam and furnished by the cabinet maker Thomas Chippendale.

Room 118a is on Level 4 of the V&A South Kensington.
