I try to mix softness, craziness, sexiness all in one in a very architectural side and also to match with the V&A philosophy. It means that what I love in your museum is the 'mixity' and how the things match each other. You create a balance which is very interesting and never boring for the visitors, which is very interesting. I try to do the same to match perfectly with the ambience of this place.
It was quite interesting ... for me to see after four years how the collection matches each other and and I was surprised to see that it was quite easy to do the selection and to mix and match.
My inspirations come from modern art, mainly. For example, all the curves and the round shapes are from Ron Arad's work as well as the architecture of Zaha Hadid or in the same spirit all the fabulous creations of Anish Kapoor. Also you know I'm very influenced by photographers as my dad was a photographer and I grew up with photographers around me - very famous like David Hamilton ... so I grew up with them in the studios, watching them shooting, so it was ... Wow! They have educated my eyes.
You have here really the round shape of what I'm talking about when I'm talking about Ron Arad. You can see here the Ron Arad spirit, for example. It's inside me, I just saw that there is a connection between his work and mine, but it was in me before I met Ron Arad. When I recognise in his work what I love and it's the same with the round shape ... of course, Mr Balenciaga has influenced me a lot and Mr Cardin as well, if I have to talk about the masters of the past, you know. I try to grow up with the couture moderne - elegant and fresh, young and strong.
It was a very nice mood and the applause ... you feel when the people love a lot and so I'm very happy today. It's a great day for me.
