The box starts as a thin sheet of copper
After cutting and beating the box takes shape
Grease and impurites are removed with acid
The box is then washed with water
The surface is roughened before coating with enamel
Enamel is made by first crushing glass
Chemicals are mixed with the glass
The mixture is heated
When cool, the enamel is crushed, then mixed with water and clay slurry
The box is dipped in the enamel
Then fired in a kiln
Several layers are needed to prevent warping
The box is now ready for painting
The colours are made from mineral oxides
Each stage is fixed by firing
Enamel paste is used to create raised decoration
A metal mount is fitted to complete the box
