Rococo writing table
NOTE: There is no sound with this video
This writing table is extraordinarily rich and elaborate for a British piece
The bronze mounts are particularly opulent
The top drawer fronts are false and hold a surprise
The whole section pulls out to reveal a writing surface
Inside there are compartments for writing materials
The drawers were shaped to follow the curves of the table
The sinuous overall shape is typical of the Rococo style
Mahogany, veneer and brass were applied to the drawer fronts
Several pieces of veneer were needed to fit the curved shape
Usually, cheap wood such as pine or oak was used inside drawers
However, these drawers are made entirely of expensive mahogany
Each drawer has a unique shape and number
There is a matching number on the dustboard
The quality of workmanship, design and decoration make this an exceptional piece
