Gallery closures

We aim to open all galleries at all times. Occasionally, galleries need to be closed at short notice due to conservation, maintenance works or events. If you are coming to the Museum to see something in a specific gallery, you are advised to call the following number in advance to check before you travel:

FuturePlan is a major redevelopment programme designed to transform the V&A and make the museum and its collections even more accessible to everyone. As a consequence, some galleries are closed for refurbishment.

Cast Courts, Room 46b

  • Gallery 46b (Italian side of the Cast Courts) will be closed to the public for refurbishment on 27 September 2010 and will reopen at the end of 2012.

Europe 1600-1800, Rooms 1-7

  • Rooms 1-7 closed to the public on 6 April 2010 The space is being redeveloped to show European decorative art and design between 1600-1800. It will re-open in winter 2014 following a major refurbishment.

Fashion, Room 40

  • Fashion, Room 40, is now closed for architectural restoration. It will reopen in spring 2012 with a series of stunning temporary fashion exhibitions. Read more

Musical instruments

  • Closed.

Textile Study Rooms, 95-100

  • The Textile Study Rooms have closed in preparation for the relocation of the textiles and fashion study collections to new storage at the Clothworkers’ Centre for Textiles and Fashion Study and Conservation at Blythe House, in Kensington Olympia. Read more.
