Flock and stencil on stained paper
Museum no. E.31-1971
Given by Mr John B. Fowler

This paper, one of several impressive flock papers hung at Clandon in the 1730s, comes from the south-east side bedroom. This kind of small-scale informal asymmetric design was considered most appropriate for private apartments such as bedrooms and dressing rooms in contrast to the more formal decoration in the public rooms. The same pattern has been found at Christchurch Mansion, Ipswich.
