'The Building News' regularly featured new wallpaper designs because their readers - architects, builders and decorators - were largely responsible for selecting wallpapers on behalf of their clients, or at least directing their choices. This shows two wall-treatments - a deep frieze and a filling by Walter Crane and a bolder scheme by Brightwen Binyon for a hall and staircase. The decoration has been adapted to fir the staircase wall. Morris's influence is evident in the foliage pattern of the filling and in the Daisy-like panels at the bottom of the dado.
