In order to reach their engagements at theatres all over the British Isles, most music hall artistes ended up spending much of their time travelling up and down the country. The Music Hall Artistes' Railway Association was an organisation which got its members reduced fares on the trains.

Mrs Jack Terry needed this membership card and a special voucher with her to get the one third discount allowed under the scheme. The card cost twenty shillings for the year in 1933, and the discount only worked in First or Third class carriages. If you spent a lot of time on the road in your career, the savings must have been quite large.
