The pair of ancestor portraits, from the period 1700 to 1800, were painted in watercolour on silk. They show the Military Official General Lu Chian Kuei and his wife. Confucianism was concerned, among other things with good and just government so it is appropriate that this gentleman is depicted in his official government attire. Today photographs are used in place of expensive scroll paintings.
