In his search for a new style for architecture and design Jones felt that Islamic art offered a 'higher truth'. He considered the Cairo mosques to be 'among the most beautiful buildings in the world'. Buildings in Cairo such as this tomb motivated Jones and Goury to continue their studies of Islamic architecture in Istanbul and Granada.
