Plastic, sterling, silk, CZs [Cubic zirconia]

'For Trunkscape I was interested in creating something from parts that would normally have no value on their own, but which appealed to me in some vaguely beautiful way, like unidentifiable relics. I am interested in jewellery art that straddles several extremes - worthless and valuable, organic and composed, natural and synthetic.'

'Trunkscape is made from model railroad tree bases, some plastic, as they came from the manufacturer, and some which have been cast in sterling silver. The brown bases are plastic which have been riveted through the hole which would normally accept the tree trunk with oxidized sterling silver. The lighter tree bases are cast sterling silver- the smaller bases have been riveted, and the larger bases have been flush set with CZs. The bases are held together with silk cord, and the necklace features a sterling chain made from altered cast silver bases and a cast silver clasp. The piece is carefully structured, with bases tied in precise positions, but when worn, the piece is fairly fluid and moves with the wearer.'
