Jones designed a number of projects for the governor of Egypt, Said Pasha, and for his nephew and successor, Ismail Pasha. This pavilion was a 'Moorish' fantasy inspired by the Alhambra Palace. Spain's Islamic rulers had built the Alhambra, with its numerous pools and water channels, in the belief that Paradise was like a 'garden'.
